Watercolourist in the wild

Ann Owen is an award-winning watercolourist based in Darwin, Australia's northernmost city.  Her vibrant, expressive artworks reflect the boldness of the tropics and the rugged charm of the Australian outback.

Tropical Colour Meets Outback Characters

Ann's passion for colour began in Papua New Guinea, where she spent her childhood surrounded by rich culture and vivid landscapes.  That early influence continues to shine through in her work today-vibrant birds, wildflowers, twisted gums and billabongs often take centre stage in her compositions.

Inspired by Nature - With a Twist

Drawn to the natural world, Ann's subjects include quirky native animals, landscapes and bush-characters full of personality.  Many of her animals have a touch of humour or mischief-reflecting Ann's own playful view of the world.

Watercolours ... and so much More

While watercolour is her first love, Ann often blends in ink, crayons and mixed media to create texture and contrast.  She is especially drawn to the luminosity of watercolour and the freedom it offers for expressive mark-making.

“What I see sparks the painting, but imagination fills in the rest—always with bold colour, dancing light, and sometimes a hint of mischief.”
